Lora’s Story. Ectopic pregnancy with Paragard.

I had the copper Paraguard placed in December 2012. In the summer of 2021, I had an ectopic pregnancy which ruptured and I was admitted tot he ER to deal with the aftermath.

In the summer of 2022, I went into my OB for removal of my IUD. At that appointment, while attempting to remove it, it broke.

I had to return a second time, after taking several medications. This attempt by my doctor was extremely painful with extensive cramping and bleeding. She determined that I would need to go to the OR, as the in-office procedure was not working. I asked her to attempt once more, to prevent surgery. She was able to remove the device on this attempt, with much pain.

I had no idea that all of this would be involved with my Paraguard or I would have opted for another form of birth-control.
