I’ve had the copper IUD in for eight months now. The insertion was no problem, went by very fast and did not hurt. However; I’ve had two children. I’ve been having restless legs every night to the point of not being able to sleep. Last time I had restless legs was during my pregnancies so I was freaking out that I could be pregnant, which I’m not. For it being a non-hormonal contraceptive, I am 99% sure that it’s the reason that I’ve had terrible(!!!) mood swings. Ever since insertion I’ve had shooting pains up and down my left side, starting in the hips. My periods are also a nightmare. They would usually last for exactly four days. Now they’re TWO weeks long. They get so extremely heavy, that I’ve had to wear my daughters diapers. I can’t wait to get it removed and only waited it out because I don’t want to be pregnant soon. Now for reference, I am 27 years old, very active, slim, eat very healthy and always watch what goes into my body. That’s why I didn’t want hormonal BC pills. However; I am extremely suspicious of this Copper IUD and personally can’t stand it.
