I’ve always had issues with other birth control methods in the past, therefore I thought I’d give the copper IUD a try seeing as how it’s hormone free and it’s good up to 10 years, sounds too good to be true if you ask me! Anyway I got mine inserted on May 8th, two weeks after my period. Right after the insertion I started having mild cramps and started spotting almost everyday, at first brownish, some days light red which to me were all normal side effects as I’ve previously read online. My period arrived 4 days earlier than usual which I was completely fine with. My flow was normal as usual and so were the cramps, everything started to fall apart on the second night of my period. I went to bed around 11 that night but for some reason I couldn’t fall asleep so I woke up to pee, all I remember is that as I walked to the bathroom I got really dizzy and fainted and hit my head on the tub! I didn’t know what had happenned! I started hyperventilating shortly afterwards and felt like my throat was closing up, then the nausea set it for a few minutes. I looked up copper toxicity symptoms and I knew immediatedly that’s what it was! I went to the ER that same night to see if I could get it removed but had no such luck so I ended up having my IUD removed a day later at my regular clinic, and as soon as I got back home I started feeling like my normal self again. It only took 2 weeks for my body to react to the copper. Ladies, please pay attention to your body, it will always let you know when something is wrong.
