I received the paragard copper birth control 6 months after my son was born. My doctor said this birth control lasts 10 years. About 6 years in I started having extremely heavy periods to the point that I could not leave the house even double pads with tampon could not prevent my flow for more than 1.5 hours. Eventually the birth control was expelled from my body. But the heavy flow continued. About 1 year later I was diagnosed with mild anemia, and soon after, having so much pain went to the ER and found that I had a fibroid growth and sadly had to have a hysterectomy or live with constant pain.
