IUD became embedded and was surgically removed. Paula’s Story –

She attempted to remove it and it was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I was screaming and crying for 30 minutes. She eventually ripped off the strings and realized it was embedded. It was traumatizing.

I had a copper IUD in for 5 years and never thought any of what I was experiencing could have been related to my IUD… (my doctor of course told me it was a non-hormonal option that wouldn’t affect my hormones). I suffered from crippling anxiety (full on paranoia), chronic fatigue, mood swings, brain fog, insomnia, and trouble concentrating. I really just thought that was my life. mbPaula’s Story – Embedded IUD

This past Summer I was coming up on my 5 years so I went to my doctor to get it removed. She immediately asked me what my next form of BC would be and after telling her I was hoping for a more natural form of BC she told me the only “safe option” would be to get another IUD/or go on the pill.

Then… the real fun part. She attempted to remove it and it was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I was screaming and crying for 30 minutes. She eventually ripped off the strings and realized it was embedded. It was traumatizing. The people in the next room thought I was giving birth.

It took my body about two weeks to recover from that pain and then they sent me to another gyno a month later who attempted to remove it with freezing gel, but he was also unsuccessful. I had to wait months before I finally was able to get in for a surgery to remove it… I was absolutely terrified.

During the time of waiting for the surgery, I was terrified to be intimate with my boyfriend out of fear of feeling that pain again (and that was almost 6 months of waiting). The surgery happened a month ago and it was successful. I was so relieved to finally have it out.

Since then, my hormones have felt like they’re completely out of whack. My guess is that my body is recovering from copper overload. My mood swings have been awful, my PMS before this period cycle was horrible and the past two days my entire body has been soooo itchy. No rash. I read about it and I’m thinking it might be due to high histamine/excess extrogen. Basically I think my IUD just screwed me up big time. Never again.
